L-methionine is the L-enantiomer of methionine. It has a role as a nutraceutical, a micronutrient, an antidote to paracetamol poisoning, a human metabolite and a mouse metabolite. It is an aspartate family amino acid, a proteinogenic amino acid, a methionine and a L-alpha-amino acid. It is a conjugate base of a L-methioninium. It is a conjugate acid of a L-methioninate. It is an enantiomer of a D-methionine. It is a tautomer of a L-methionine zwitterion.
The role of methionine on broilers: the feeding period of broilers is usually only 8 to 9 weeks, from the brooding period to the finishing period, the amino acid requirements are very high, in order to allow broilers to obtain enough energy to meet the rapid growth, we should use high-efficiency feed for broilers. Adding methionine into broiler feed can increase the high energy protein of feed and make chickens gain weight quickly, so as to achieve the purpose. The purpose of raising pigs is to produce meat, which is divided into two parts: (1) the growth period of muscle tissue and (2) the fattening period of adipose tissue. The growth period is the synthesis of muscle tissue by protein, while the fattening period is the deposition of fat to improve meat taste. The use of appropriate feed to feed pigs can improve meat yield, but protein feed is generally more expensive, so adding an appropriate amount of methionine to pig feed can reduce the use of high-priced protein feed, improve feed conversion rate, thereby increasing benefits.
