Ferulic acid, as a phenolic plant component, has strong antioxidant activity and plays a great role in promoting human health. Ferulic acid can significantly increase the content of glutathione and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate in irradiated cells, which has a protective effect on irradiated endothelial cells. Heme oxygenase is an antioxidant enzyme, which can convert heme into biliverdin and eventually into the antioxidant bilirubin. Ferulic acid can regulate the expression of this enzyme well, thus playing a protective role in radiation protection
